Trolleybus Skoda 8Tr

General description of the trolleybus

         Škoda 8Tr on the body structure and electrical equipment was similar to the previous models - 6Tr and 7Tr. The 8Tr trolleybus was quite large for its time - its length was 10.7 meters. The trolleybus had a bearing body, where the main element was a steel frame, structurally combined with a frame-truss for improving rigidity and, accordingly, strengthening the structure. The sidewalls of the sides, front and rear were made of steel panels. Outside, the trolleybus was very similar to the predecessor Škoda 7Tr, it was equipped with round-headlights typical for cars of that time; windshield wipers were fastened above a windshield.
         On the trolley bus was installed a Czech traction electric motor Al 2943 rN with a capacity of 110 kilowatts. To supply the low-voltage network of the trolleybus, an auxiliary electric motor generator was used, which converted the input high voltage of 600 volts to a low voltage of 24 V.
         Also, the machines were equipped with scraper catchers. They were two ropes tied on one side to the upper ends of the rods and wound on two drums, which were placed in two reels attached to the rear of the trolleybus
         The trolleybus control system is rheostat-contactor. The block with the braking rheostats, necessary to limit the current that passed through the windings of the electric motor, is under the floor. On the roof of the trolleybus, besides the current collectors, there are reactors for suppressing radio communication interference.
         To slow the trolleybus can be used as a pneumatic (pedal on the left), and an electric brake (pedal in the middle between the accelerator and pneumatic brake). When the middle pedal is depressed, the electric brake works, and already at a low speed the process is completed by the pneumatic system. Brake mechanisms have a drum type - it's a closed braking mechanism, the brake shoe is pressed against the drum from the inside. For its operation, a compressor is used, driven by an electric motor. Suspension of the trolleybus - spring.
         The trolleybus was produced in a three-door and two-door versions - the latter was supplied exclusively to the USSR. In the first case, the doors were not only in the front and rear overhangs, but also in the base. The height of the floor was about 75 centimeters above the ground.
         For ventilation of the cabin, folding windows were used, and for heating - the heat of the starting braking rheostats. Also, the trolleybus was equipped with a mechanical manual brake in the form of a lever acting on the brake mechanisms of the rear drive axle.
